I was once asked to tell funny knock-knock jokes at one of my daughter's playdates. My mind went blank, so I went online to find the best knock-knock jokes for kids to be prepared should the situation arise again.

Children aren't that picky when it comes to these hilarious gems. While they can be corny, clean kid knock-knock jokes are great because laughter resets cranky moods and provides interaction between the teller and guesser. Sure, the repetition can become tiring, but that and the ease of remembering the simple five steps of a knock-knock joke is exactly what makes them a hit with children who often make up their own nonsensical versions.

Be sure to check the comments as, over the years, people have left even more kids knock-knock jokes there. You can download and print this list in a PDF for free. This way, you are never at a loss for something silly to say, and your child can entertain friends on the playground at school.

The History of These Funny Jokes

Here's a little bit of fun trivia. Have you ever wondered where these jokes came from? The earliest known funny knock-knock jokes (which were actually called "do you know" jokes) can be traced back to about 1900.

"Do you know" jokes — e.g., Do you know Conrad?… Conrad who?… Conrad-ulations, this was a joke! — were replaced by knock-knock jokes in the 1930s, when the format suddenly got hugely popular.

Businesses held competitions. Entertainers wove them into everything, including music and dance numbers. Radio stations aired them in abundance. There were even knock-knock joke clubs all over the country.

By the end of the 1930s, however, critics passed over them, and the enthusiasm for knock-knock jokes dwindled. They still have a loyal audience, though. Kids from toddlers up to middle school grades continue to be the main consumers, which will probably never change. I think adults still find them funny. I read a few on this list to my husband, and he laughed out loud (they are the ultimate dad jokes, after all).
